Research Presentation

Pirate ships were very important to pirates, because without them they would (literally) probably not have gotten as far as they did. The three most common types of pirate ships were sloops, brigantines, and frigates.
Sloops:
Sloops were small, but fast and maneuverable. They had one mast and one sail. Steve Bonnet’s Revenge was a sloop.
Brigantines:
Brigantines were larger with more space, but sacrificed a bit of their speed and maneuverability. They had two masts and two major sails.
Frigates:
Frigates were the largest of the three, but were still fast and maneuverable for their size. They were defined as having 28 or more cannons. Blackbeard's Queen Anne's Revenge was a frigate.
What was interesting:
I found the process of careening very interesting, as well as the origin story of the sloop!
What did I learn?:
I learned a lot about these three types of ships, and through that learned more about ships than I previously knew. Ships are really very interesting once you start learning about them.
If I could do it over, I think I would make it a little longer, and I would add a cool video of one of these kinds of ships in action, if I could find one.

Presentations

I think I did rather well on my presentation! I'm proud of myself for doing as well as I did.

What works:
·       Big font
·       Projecting voice
·       Keeping it “short and sweet”
·       Keeping it interesting
·       Lots of pictures
·       A lot of interesting information
·       Good and fun (at least a little bit!) topicsWorks:
·       Keeping the audience’s attention
·       Differing your tone of voice
·       Adding additional information that wasn’t on your slide

What doesn’t work:
·       Small font
·       Staying behind the desk
·       Talking for a long time about things that aren’t interesting
·       Straying from the point
·       Minimum information/not interesting information
·       Boring topics make it hard to keep the audience engaged
·       Keeping your voice at the same tone and inflection the entire time (Robot voice)

·       Reading right off the slide with no extra information or anything to add

Fun With Blackbeard

If I were part of the QAR Project, I would want to help recover the sunken ship, either by diving to look for artifacts or helping them bring pieces up. I like learning about artifacts, such as the remains of the ship's hull. Another cool thing about recovering items from the ship is that you sometimes find personal items, such as buttons and pins. Game pieces and gold dust have also been found in the remains of the ship.
One of the planks from the hull.
Artifacts have always been really cool to me, and finding them would be very fun and something I'd enjoy a lot.

A game piece.
